Problems with AWA Single action army cylinder timing

I have an AWA single action army revolver. It recently has developed timing issues with the cylinder. Half the time it will not lock up correctly.

After taking it apart it appears the hand spring has broken. But I have also read that changing out the main spring and trigger/bolt spring would be a good idea at the same time.

Any recommendations on where to go for these?

Personally I'd skip changing the mainspring, go online to Numrich or Brownells and buy a few hand springs and a few trigger return springs. They're cheap.

A lot of imported single-actions have crappy flat springs---gunsmiths often replace them with Colt items if they will fit---the same goes for firing pins.

Some have crappy everything else, too.
The price point that they sell these guns at I would not expect Colt quality.

What does AWA say? Try contacting them first.

Timing single actions can be tricky. If you replace the springs and that doesn't help, I am in Aptos and can help you out.

Check to see if the hand or cylinder ratchet is worn -- Also there could be a burr on the bolt --

Ive put thousands of rounds through a pair of ASM colt copy's. If the timing was good before the spring broke it will still be good after. Colt used the same flat springs and they break with the same frequency. Ruger's big improvement was the use of coil springs. I have a full set of replacement springs for my guns in my shooting kit just in case! I got mine from Brownells. Good luck DR

Replaced the hand spring and everything locks up tight again. The hand does have some wear, should have proabably just ordered a new hand assembly instead of just the spring.

I did have two more questions though. Is the trigger spring supposed to just barely ride on the trigger, i mean it is just ever so slightly on the lip.

Also there is this extra triangle piece that sat next to the bolt. I cant find it on any diagram i look up and it seems like it just sits in there loose. Is at a type of spacer?

That wire spring looks a little marginal from your picture. It should sit firmly on the ledge on the trigger. The other part is not a part from any traditional SA. Is yours the coil spring model? May be a part from that stuff.

No coil spring. Ive been testing it and everything seems fine without that piece in there. So I don't know what to think.
