Yup. That was my first impression -- James River's prices are about double.

And it's not just sales tax. On a $1200ish gun, that would be nearly $100. Plus the fees at the local FFL, where they're no longer limited to the state-mandated $35 but can rip you just as much as they want for out-of-state transfers. So you're looking at $150 to $200 on top of the James River list price.

My economy ain't that good yet so's I can pays double and more to eliminate a few weeks of waiting.

CMP prices determine the floor of what Garands go for, with the exception of people who may have to sell for panic reasons. Nobody will beat their prices for equivalent quality. (Just think of what they pay to get them in the first place).

      Almost certainly.

Is there a circled letter P on the forward side of the pistol grip?

Is there some sort of cartouche on the left side, near the end of the receiver?

If not, it's not an original stock (not that that's bad).

The circle-P is the firing proof ("Yes, we really did shoot this gun before it left the factory, and it's good") and the cartouche -- crossed cannons, a box with three stars above an eagle holding three arrows, or a box with some letters, indicating an arsenal overhaul -- indicate that it was accepted by the government or refurbished by a government arsenal.

It doesn't have the circle P. The cartouche is CMP.
I think I'll probably BLO the stock as it is a little rough.

Outstanding! Congratulation on a nice M1. What is the serial # range and does it match the barrel?

The stock is a new walnut made by Bodys. Recently CMP been shipping SG with walnut as opposed to the ugly pumpkin birch. Also I noticed the new light blue hang tag instead of the customary yellow in the past.

Took it apart today and the stock has an april 2012 stamp. Serial number is2858198.
Somewhere from 43 to 45. The barrel has NM stamped on it. Going to do more research on the rest of it. I think a few of the parts are marked HRA. So it could be a mix of parts.

I do not think they are taking 30-60 days.

I mailed my paperwork 7/24. On 8/2 received the email from Sharron that they received my paperwork on 7/27. Got an email 8/14 saying it was being delivered 8/15. The Fedex truck arrived at 10:25 AM It is a HRA Service Grade.

How is the field grade? Which type did you get and what are the differences in them? I see Winchester is more than a hundred bucks more than the other two?

Is a week about how long you guys are waiting for a contact? I submitted my paperwork for one on 8/10/12 and was hoping to have gotten some sort of email by now, just confirming the order.
