Best place to get Enfields on the cheap?

I'm really growing fond of the look of Enfields, and I might be looking into getting one a couple paychecks from now. What's one of the best places to currently get them? Online or otherwise.

Secondly, Does anyone know of a gun store in Sacramento area with cheap transfer fees? no FFL03 makes Alex a sad panda.

I do not know what you consider cheap. But I have 2 for sale and since they are C&R there would be no transfer fees like if you go to a gun shop.one is a SMLE #1 MKIII and the other is a #4 MKI. I have not shot them but they in excellent condition. Price $275 each. They are extras and I am selling them because I would like the money for my Africa hunting trip. PM me if interested

Diver, if you still have them by the time my paycheck after next comes in, I'll definitely take one off your hands.

If you're into them for looks or feel, and don't really care about the historical value, a lot of mom-and-pop gun stores often carry sporterized versions for less than $200.

Enfield "on the cheap"? Easy. Go get a time machine that will take you back to 2004.

I bought a 1941 Lithgow SMLE from AIM Surplus for $150, shipped. Had been re-furbed in India and came with an Indian bayonet. No finish on the wood, which was all different species. Saturated with cosmolene. Took a lot of cleaning and wood refinishing work to make it nice, but it looked and shot great.

About the same time, some importer brought in a load of #4 Enfields from some unspecified country. (India? Turkey? Greece?) All kinds of cosmolene, mismatched metal parts with worn finish, and grubby, dinged-up wood. But for about $100 you had a functional shooter.

Here's what you can get "on the cheap" today - whatever the importers are bringing in, in quantity. That would be primarily Russian Mosin-Nagant 91/30's. Maybe some Yugo Mausers. Anything else you have to get from the secondary market (like Gunbroker) one rifle here and one rifle there, so it will usually cost more. You can scrounge small gunshops & pawnshops with FFLs. Sometimes you find a good deal.

Otherwise sporterized Enfields are usually cheap, but then you have to consider whether they are restorable and, if so, how much will the parts cost?

          Regards,

I have one and an extra magazine if you're still looking after all these posts. Nearby, so FTF is easy. $250 with both magazines.

Go to Bing/Google and put in "Lee Enfield for sale" . Start searching yourself. That's how many of us do it.

I would avoid "on the cheap" until you know about what you're looking for. For a good shooting LE try www.bdlltd.com. Brian will sort you out. Won't be on the cheap but it will be solid and safe.

Cheap is a figurative word. I'd have it inspected and headspaced for safety like any other C&R. I'd prefer an inexpensive shooter until I decide if I want to pursue more Enfields, or try for another type of C&R. Some Sporterized/bubba-victims don't sound too bad. Would be fun to have a resto project to get angry at other than my car.

If you want to get cheap Enfields, remember that .303 won't be as cheap. There is no more surplus.

Unless you want to shoot that crappy Pakistani stuff.
