I really don't know what's worse, the bark or the bite!^^

For those that haven't seen one shot, they are also louder than hell, with a concussion wave that you can feel even standing 5-10 yards away.

I have two M91/30s and one M44. I probably shoot the M44 three times as much as the others - it's handier and more fun to shoot. Plus it's a conversation starter - after a few concussive blasts from the M44, people at the range generally come over to ask what that is.

Nice pics Vlad. You can never have too many Mosins. Here's a 91/59 I picked up Sunday.
              Because milsurp.

You can pickup a cheap M44 with near barrel, since many were made postwar &

didn't see rigor of 'real fighting' (just in the firing squads).

I plan on mounting a scout scope on M44 for that reason, plus I'm less likely to get grief from the hard core "preservationists" since it is a less historical post WW2 rifle.

Barrel on the M44 seems the heaviest gauge tube, compared to med gauge M91/30 and the light gauge M38.

My M38 is by far the lightest, with short light barrel and no bayonet. Its lighter weight makes it become easiest to shoot after a bit, but the M91/30 with long bayonet fixed has great 'inertia' for stability while shooting off hand...until your left arm starts trembling from the exertion of holding it up.

                  That's a crisp looking 91/59

I dont know if that holds water. You take the sight/bayo assembly off and its not so 'heavy gauge'.

Supposedly the 91/59 being a cut down 91/30 is a bit thicker, but i haven't verified even that for myself

How did your M44 sight in with the bayo folded? I had to tap my front sight half way out of the dovetail to bring POA and POI together at 100 yds.It seems inconceivable but true that the front sight is so far off centerline.

For top velocities, the M91/30. For fireball fun, the M44 or M91/59. For hunting Bambi, either one.

If you want a carbine, get a carbine. While you're at it, since M91/30's are so inexpensive, might as well pick up one of those, too. Best $100 you'll spend.

Less M44s made post war (by far) than wartime.

But scout scoping is reversible, so it's not bubba.

Can ya link me to more info on the mount specifics of that? I'm researching options, and really don't want to permanently modify my M44 if I can avoid it. Thanks!

Search for "Mosin Nagant scout mount". There are several YouTube videos that will show up and give you a good description of what this is.

Another option is to use a Jmeck scope mount. This scope mount also does not modify the rifle permanently and will put the scope in the "traditional" position, further back on the rifle. They do work well.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.
