    Identification help please

I am about to start getting into older bolt action rifle. I know little to nothing about them so I was hoping for some identification help. I have the chance to by the following rifle but would like to know what it is, what it shoots, and what is a fair price to offer for it. Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

What is this and what does it do?

I assume this is a cleaning rod, how does it come out?

It's a turkish mauser, looks like a model 38. should be chambered for 8mm mauser (7.92x57)

The little hinge that swings open lets you remove the bolt.

Turk mausers are usually in the $150-$200 range, depending on a couple of things. Does the bolt match, and how is the bore?

looks like a turkish mauser, 8mm, cleaning rod unscrews, unless it's rusted in

Bought one at a gun show in a free state for $150 2 years ago . . . . here in CA who knows what the market will be . . . $300 or more

everything is overpriced out here, just glad I got a job and can afford to feed my addicitions

Looks just like my Turk but those markings are much more crisp than mine. Turners had it on consignment for $150, I offered $125 and the seller went for it. Split the DROS with another rifle so out the door just under $150 with tax.

Numbers do not match on the bolt. Bore looks brand new, the rifling is incredibly sweet looking. the whole rifle is in really nice condition.

It will be mine, heck it is already in my safe. Now to get some ammo and have some fun.

I assume this will reach out pretty far. Any advice on ammo and what kind of range should I expect?

Any 8MM Mauser will work. If you use corrosive be sure to clean it thoroughly afterwords.

The bolt not matching is normal for turks, I would've been surprised if it matched. The bore sounds good though.

For ammo, if you don't reload, you might want to look into it. Otherwise, I think Yugo surplus 8mm is still around, and I see turk 8mm for sale on the for sale forum here fairly often. Most surplus ammo is corrosive, and you need to clean accordingly. Do you know how to clean after using corrosive ammo?

The furthest range I've shot with my 8mm was 350 yards, but thats only because thats how far my range goes.

All those other guys are wrong. It's an assault weapon. You do not have the training/skills/permission/need/courage/physical strength/mental capacity/spiritual resistance to its evil powers to operate or even posess it. You need to sent it to me ASAP!
It doesn't matter how scary, ugly, uncomfortable, or inconvenient self defense can be. Like it or not, you will never, ever be relieved of your duty and responsibility to defend your life, your family, your country and your freedom.

How much ammo do I need? Enough to last me the rest of my life, and then lot more for later.
