It can beat into the cylinder with a large hammer.

Looks fine, it could use a cleaning. I would tell your friend to keep it, rather than sell it, cause there isn't a serious demand for them.

I purchased a 1895 Nagant revolver some time ago, and it is a lot of fun. I had some issues with the 7.62 Nagant round (I had difficulty removing the rounds with the ejector rod) but luckily I bought a .32 ACP conversion cylinder (the revolver is able to safely shoot this round with the conversion cylinder). Since the 7.62 rounds I bought were all surplus, its nice to be able to shoot a more readily available round ( I would recommend buying one if you can find it).

Saying that, you need the 7.62 rounds in order for the revolver to use the "gas sealing" mechanism it is known for. I know a lot about the history and functionality of the revolver from what I have read, so let me know if you have any questions.

Adam2271, how much fitting did the new cylinder require? Were you able to do it yourself?

Yes, it was very easy for me to do by myself without tools, I just had to remove the central rod (sorry I cant think of a more technical term) and remove the cylinder. From there, there is a another central rod attached to a spring- rotate this and it pops right out. With the new cylinder you just replace this rod and spring, place it in the frame of the revolver, and put back the central connecting rod. (There are a few videos on youtube which I followed to help me). I believe the spring is what allows for the "gas sealing" as it allows the cylinder to move forward towards the barrel, and then back to its original position.

Although it was straightforward for me, I did read of people having a more difficult time inserting the new cylinders (having them not fit, having to use tools etc). Also from what I understand, the company that makes them has been out of stock for a while, so they might be difficult to get.

Hope this helps- At some point I am hoping to upload a short video about the Nagant revolver, if anything happens, I will be sure to let everyone know!
