winch 94 .30 wcf?

friend at work brought in a octagon barreled 94 rifle w/24" barrel chambered in .30 wcf. interesting points are that the serial # which is 5 or 6 #s has all 3 #1's in the serial # have been turned into "L's" and the front sight has been filled in with a dovetail, it appears there may have been a tang sight at one time, but overall its in really nice shape, oh yeah, the stock may have been sanded earllier, cause the crescent buttplate extends below the wood a little. anyone heard of the #'s being changed into L's?

The engraver who cut the serial number dies was sloppy, they are ones. Usually found on 1894's that predate somewhere around 1904. What's the full serial and I'll give you the actual date the receiver left the polishing room.
