    M1944 Refurb Questions

Last year I ordered a M44 Mosin Nagant carbine from SOG during their Holiday sale. It came with a broken trigger screw (which I fixed) and there is very little paint on the stock butt plate but other than that it's real nice. I knew it was 1944 numbers matching but I can't find a refurb mark on it anywhere. How lucky did I get?

UPDATE: not very, but I did learn a bunch about the refurb process! Thanks everyone.

Just because it wasn't refurb marked doesn't mean it wasn't refurbed. Pics?

The wood is really nice, not the flaky shellac I have on my 1942 91/30.

What do you guys think? There's no wood or metal refurb marks that I can find.

To me it looks like refurb bluing. But the pics are a bit blurry so ....

The absence of the official refurb stamps doesn't necessarily make it in original condition

Hard to tell based off those pics.

            What is the wood finish?

I'll try to get some better pics with a real camera.

The wood finish is... like a thin coat of satin wood stain.

Original, refurb, whatever. I like the stock. Probably not original finish, but I'm not a collector & think it looks pretty nice.

I have a non-refub M44. and its totally obvious, no refurb markings, no shellac, no paint, and the metal bluing is absolutely 0%. Looks like it was dragged around for decades...awesome looking

                      Wow, that's awesome!

Mine is really clean so that probably suggests it has been refurbed.

Not necessarily. I've got a near new 46 Izhevsk that I don't think ever got refurbed. The bolt was replaced at some point though, I think it's probably an armorers replacement but that's just speculation on my part.

Your rifle is kinda tough, I can't tell if it went through refurb or not based on those pics.

                          So... not original. Thanks.

Senor Peligro's rifle looks like it is in a post-war stock with the dovetailed in toe piece, and since it's not a wartime laminated stock, the finish is also incorrect for an original WW2 rifle.
How can you tell it's a Pole stock? Beech wood isn't unique to polish rifles.

Didn't the stocks with the pressed sling slots start production in 1944?
