    procedure for selling an oldie.

Need some help, i have a winchester model 1895 with the lyman site in 30-40
krag, and i was wondering what i need to do to sell it. the serial number on it shows the rifle was made in 1898. Am i going to need to go through a dealer or can i do a person to person sale?
Any help on where i can find the info or if someone knows what i need to do would be very much appreciated.
    thanks you.

If it was made before 1/1/1899, it is an antique. You can sell it through the mail, on auction sites, face to face.

"Antique", no dealer involved, you can mail it to the buyers front door if you want.

Even if not antique: If 50 years old and C&R long gun, you can sell it to another CA resident without involving a dealer. The old PC number system exemption was PC 12078 (t)(2). It will be that way until Portantino's long gun registration Bill kicks in in 2014.

If 100% sure it was made prior to 1899, then it's both a Federally defined and state defined antique and you can sell it across state lines; ship it; just like any other property. Even an antique handgun.
