I bought another barrel for my 24/47 Yugo Mauser. It's chambered for 7.62x51. Should I swap it out, or keep the rifle in 8mm?

It doesn't matter how scary, ugly, uncomfortable, or inconvenient self defense can be. Like it or not, you will never, ever be relieved of your duty and responsibility to defend your life, your family, your country and your freedom.
How much ammo do I need? Enough to last me the rest of my life, and then lot more for later.

If you want to. It's your rifle, dude.
Keep in mind that you may have some other issues, due to the shorter length of the 7.62 NATO cartridge. You might have to inlet the stock to accomodate the new barrel. You will have to headspace and (most likely) "finish ream" the chamber with a pull-through reamer. Just make sure you have a plan...
What type/brand of barrel did you get?
