Looking for a nice M1 Garand. How much can i expect to pay?

i just started my first job today and i want my first purchase when i have enough to be an M1 Garand. Id prefer a Springfield with a nice bore, walnut stock with not much damage and most of the bluing. what can i expect to pay for something like this? Does it cost more for a LOW Serial #??
Where can i buy one for Private Party Transfer? do gun shows do PPT for C&R Eligible rifles? or do i need a C&R 03 FFL for that? wheres the best place to get a PPT Garand? How much can i expect to pay for a Garand like the one i described above? Any help is appreciated

can you guys post pics of your Garands and how much you paid for it? thatd really narrow it down so i know how much i need to spend

I'm rather impatient and don't want to wait 90 days. Anywhere around here that I can do PPT?

You can't do better for a first M1 than the Civilan Marksmanship Program (CMP). Look around and you'll find a club that will let you shoot a match to qualify.

            Won't need a PPT it's a C&R gun - you can do a FTF

Gratz on the choice! Your passion for the historical firearms is obvious.

                  (Misinfo deleted. Doh!)

As for cost, I don't own one but I've been drooling over one for a while. A buddy of mine picked up a spectacular early 1950s Springfield all numbers matching example recently at a LGS for $1100. He really REALLY lucked out though.

Check out CMP (www.odcmp.com). Start collecting the requirements and pick yourself up a fine service or special grade for just under $1k. Don't worry about things like matching numbers or low serials. You want to shoot the thing, right? Don't get yourself something so nice that you end up worrying about every ding or scratch or bump. Get something you'll enjoy using.

Hope that helps, and I look forward to what others have to say!

Shouldn't take that long, I think the turn around time has been less than 45 days lately. Do yourself a favor, slow down just a little bit, investigate and order from the CMP. You won't be sorry, the quality of the rifle you receive for the price paid and its unquestionable heritage will not be equalled with a private sale, at least its not very likely.

Service Grade Special HRA from http://www.odcmp.com/ $950.00 Took 34 days earlier this Spring. Personally, I think you would be unwise to buy one from anyone but the CMP until you know what you are looking at and can grade guns and know the values.
