    .308 in a Mosin?

I Got a friend that reloads 7.62x54r, and he is using this bullet in .308
    150grn hornady fmjbt

I think my mosins are .311 from the factory, but have not yet slugged them to see what they really are.
Can I shoot this bullet in my mosins?

Thanks, I always heard it was okay, and when I look at the bore and groove numbers I know I should be okay, but I just wanted to ask before I put one of the .308 bullets in my beloved mosins.

It wont really hurt it but accuracy may suffer.

28/30s came with a .3082 diameter, some early Finnish M91s are similar. A Soviet M/N should have come with a .311, but with wear .314-.316 isn't unusual.

.308 projectile will shoot fine but whether it grabs the rifling enough is another matter.

If your friend is going through the trouble to reload x54r why isn't he using .311's?
They aren't very hard to find

I will have to ask him, maybe they are just for his Finn's?

I use .308 bullets loaded in my .311 bored M-38 with no problems, actually was more accurate than .311 bullets. Reloading it is easy, the 7.62x54R dies I bought came with both a .308 and a .310 expander. (lee set bought about 9 years ago and still going strong)
