Loewe Chilean Mauser 1895 ... collectible or Bubba material ?

ok so i picked up a 1895 Mauser in 7mm(was told its a Loewe Chilean Mauser 1893, but its marked 1895) in trade and its rough ....

pitted and worn metal(cant make out the crest anymore, but side of receiver rollmarks in are ok),stock is beat to death and seems to be no markings on the stock, bolt is mis matched and bent handle(think orig was strait , bolt handle knob is denting the stock), oh and bore is gone its about a smoothbore

anywho does this sound like Bubba material , or are these things even in poor shape collectible ?

help me decide if this becomes a .45 acp project or not

also wondering if converted to .45 is it still considered a antique as far as a transfer goes ?

It's worth $100 to someone in that state.

I guess the real question is, What's it worth to you?

i estimated its value @ 50-100 and to me thats a cheap doner for a project gun .... just dont want to Bubba it (the .45 acp conversion will req slotting the receiver for ejector) and find out they where rare even in poor condition ....lol

That looks like a short rifle to me. I do not see to many of those. I could not tell you how rare they are, but I see less of them than standard 1893s.

The receiver is antique pre-1898 so anything you build on that receiver will always be an antique also.

If it were mine- I would keep it as is for several reasons- There's PLENTY of other sporter material out there for cheap (and in better condition), it's a carbine- which makes it harder to come by than the Chilean long rifles (YES- they are collectable), and finally- I would hate to think it survived over 100 years in it's current configuration just for it to be hacked into a sporter... But to each his own I suppose.

Well, the metal ain't much so hacking it up is not much loss, but it would seem a waste to carve up the carbine stock and hardware. Those items could possibly resurrect another weapon.

                  It's a M93, produced in '95. Stock appears G-VG as shown.
For a bubba project, get yourself another example w/ a wasted stock & leave this one be.

I would either keep it as is, or sell it to buy a bubba rifle. These are pretty uncommon. And to a collector, looking to fill a hole in his collection, it is worth more than the cost of a cheap bubba'd gun on gunbroker. If you really want to do the .45 Carbine, and you are short on funds, sell this and just buy something that has already been hacked up.

after sleeping on it i think i will just look to trade it for a k98 large ring mismatched action/bolt and go from there instead of completely killing this one, just know i would kick myself if i hacked it up ....
