    Dang that's a big scope.

Not quite C+R, but I thought I'd share a pic of my son and his PVS2 "Night Vision Weapon Sight" he got for his M16 clone. Basically doubles the weight of the gun.
    Because milsurp.

Paulie, does it have a battery conversion in it?
I got one for my PVS-3, and now that battery size is obsolete and no longer made.
Those military issued batteries need to be kept in a cool place. If they get too hot, they explode like an M-80! I found out the hard way, and had to paint the bedroom walls.

I believe that's what the small box in the upper right of this pic is.

The PVS-2 came with a little battery adapter as pictured above. Uses four Double As. I'm not sure if the PVS-3 would use the same adapter but, if it does, you might be able to pick up one from Here for your scope.

Skitters, I wish it was that easy!
The PVS-3 takes two round flat camera batteries about the diameter of a quarter. I think I have something figured out, soon as I get some spare time I'll work on it.
When I get it up and running again, I'll drag you along on a night mission to reduce the resident terrorist coyote population at the pheasant club. Shots are inside a 100yrds, from a hill top overlooking the gut pile from the cleaned birds. That's of course if you want to go?

The PVS-3 is a little smaller, and uses a side mount that clamps into the carry handle. If you think that PVS-2 looks big on a rifle, you should my PVS-3 mounted on my XM-177 E2! I think it weighs as much as the gun.

Aww, crap, I see. Was hoping it would work in a similar fashion to the -2. Hope you can work something out for it. Makes me kinda worried. I'm hoping to pick up a PVS-4 for me M16A2 Clone one of these days. Have to wonder what sort of batts that thing takes.

As for taking out some Coyotes, I'd prolly be up for it. Though, I'm way up here in the frosty north at the moment. And will be for an undetermined period of time. If I'm ever back in Sac with my M16 and the Scope I'll shoot you a PM!

Gonna need a bipod for this thing, methinks. It's just too heavy to reliably shoot standing. If I'm up here into the winter, I may try it out on a bear/wolf/other Alaskan critter someday. Dunno.

Wow! That thing is HUGE! (go ahead... I'll leave that line open for you guys)
Oh, it is huge. It's ridiculous... but I just love it!

They got smarter with the -4, it's 2nd generation, and it takes two AA batteries. They have thermal imaging compact scopes out now, and the prices have dropped from $30K to $6K. I'm gonna have to work a lot of overtime.
Coyote elimination time is from Sept 1st to May, so give me a heads up when you'll be home on leave. We can shoot some pheasant and chukars, take a nap, and then shoot yotes when it gets dark. We'll have to bring your dad along, we don't want him complaining cause he missed out on the fun.

You guys have to realize these are scaled down versions of a CRT type of television tube. They were developed in the late 60's, about the same time color TV's came on the market!
They are a "passive" system, meaning they didn't emit light to illuminate like Infrared does, they gather ambient light and magnify it. You could detect your communist enemy before he could see you.
And if you think these are large, have you ever seen our first successful night vision on a M-3 Carbine? An extra 7+ pounds clamped on your carbine, how would you like to pack that around?

Yeah, I reckon there are much nicer and more compact systems out there, but I'm after the Milspec stuff that would have actually been used with my guns. From what I understand the -4 is correct for the M16A2 so... gonna have to save up, heh.

As for the 'yotes and whatnot, yeah, we'll just have to see. I likely won't have the M16s and the Scope home until I PCS out of here which, quite honestly, could be sooner rather than later. Alot of stuff is up in the air right now.

And, yeah, we'd definitely have to bring my dad along, heh.

Stop that, you've actually got me considering an M203 for this thing now... after the Bayonets, sling and bipod... that'd be all I'd really need to complete my A1s, heh.

^ And that is why this PVS-2 isn't really that big.

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...
