I was thinking of ordering a field grade Springfield M1 Garand, does CMP ship to your door in CA? in other states they ship to your door, but in CA do they require through FFL in CA? the CMP website doesn't day anything for CA, has anybody ordered a Garand from CMP and got it shipped here?

Go to CMP website and read it. All the requirements are there.
The CMP has a government charter to do what they do.
Do yourself a solid and pay the extra 100$ for service grade.

CMP ships directly to the person that has placed the order. Mind came via FedEx. While they may use UPS as well as FedEx everyone that I know received theirs via FedEx. Must be signed for by an adult. If no one is home they will not leave it.
I have always found it interesting given the oppressive gun laws in California that CMP rifles do not have to go through an FFL, but they do not.
I am not sure how the long gun registration law that goes into effect next year will impact CMP, but at the present time they are legally shipped directly to your door. As noted above, it may have something to do with CMP being a congressionally chartered organization.Last edited by 003; 06-14-2012, 8:03 PM.Comment

Post 1/1/14, CMP Garands will still ship to your door. (so will any other C&R long gun) . You just have to register it yourself.
OP, CMP is not a FFL so they are exempt from FFL requirements.
... and if you opt for an HRA service grade, it'll be really, really nice. (these were all built after WW2 so they haven't been banged around too much)Comment

FedEx brings it to your door (got two yesterday) and there is no requirement that you register them or do anything other than enjoy some fine rifles.
