    Finally got a Finn 28/30...update.

    Sorry for the delay...

Metal is in good shape. Unfortunately, some nitwit polyurethaned the stock

Bore looks decent, Range report to follow

Anyone venture a guess as to bore diameter on this one?

Nice lookin' rifle, that's for sure.

But I've got to ask. Why is it considered so "bad" to polyurethane a milsurp's wood? Don't we want to preserve the wood for as long as we can?

    I guess 0.308" bore.

Most collectors like to keep their surplus rifles in as original condition as possible. Usually when polyurethane has been used, it is accompanied by sanding, which tends to remove or damage stock cartouchees and other collector interest items.

Plus, it is usually poorly applied

I have a sneaking suspicion you mean groove diameter, and a second suspicion that it's .308. Not that this is a guarantee of a .310 groove diameter, but is there a "D" mark for the longer throat chambering? I'd err on the side of safety and being nice to these old warhorses, and not shoot .310-.311 diameter milsurp if it's a .308

Because poly is fugly on a milsurp stock, and because the Finn finish has done it's job just fine for decades.

It would've been made with a .3082 bore, but it may have been worn to .310-.311. Gotta slug it to be sure.

Gorb...you are correct...I meant groove diameter. I can find no sign of a "D" on the barrel shank. I'm going to assume that means that it has not had the chamber relieved for the heavy ball.
