    Russian capture K98 markings

How can you tell if a K98 Mauser is a Russian Capture? Thanks

I'm not a expert but look for a "X" stamp on the receiver, the bolt will have a electro penciled serial number, the stock serial numbered and the sight hood, cleaning rod & locking screws will be removed.
The cleaning rod, locking screws and sight hood can be replaced. I believe earlier K98s did not have a sight hood.

Also, sometimes there is flat black paint applied to the metal parts to cover up missing/thin blueing.
The butt plate and the bayonet stud will be hot dip blued.
The stock will be covered in that awful russian shellac.

Rem222 pretty much covered it. The absolute very least they received was the X stamp.
The typical RC has all the German markings "pinged' or center punched out, bead blast finish, shellac finished stock, mismatched serial numbers, electro penciled force match, left side buttstock serial number stamp to match receiver serial, sight hood, cleaning rod, and capture screws removed.

              More than a non-capture K98? No.

More than they used to? Yes.
