Samco Swiss K31 "cracked stock" feedback?

I'm considering the Swiss K31s that Samco has for sale, but the note for any of them, beech or walnut stock, says "cracked stock."

Has anyone ordered one of these, and how significant is the stock damage? Is it an easy repair, or a more serious matter? I'd really like to know what I'm getting into with one of these.

Also, how is the condition of these rifles from Samco otherwise?

Thanks for any input you have!

Prevailing theory is that they are not "cracked" stocks but are arsenal repairs. I've never bought from them but several people have posted about it. My advise is to look at Simpsons (www.simpsonltd.com) They have a better selection, have photos and are really wonderful to deal with.

Just email Samco with your question. I asked about barrel condition on their Swede Mauser barreled actions and got good description in couple of days. The K31 I got came from Samco via a Cal-gunner and he told me they have reputation for having some of the better condition Swiss rifles in terms of the stocks. The problem is Samco does not describe each individual rifle in terms of bore and stock condition but is also cheaper.

I've actually been curious about this myself. Now that I have a Beech stock K31, I think I have a hankerin' for a Walnut model.

Then again, I like the idea of the longer barrel on the 1911.

If you want to know ahead of time of what your getting I would 2nd the recommendation to Simpson's Limited. They cost a bit more but at least you get a picture of what your buying. On a business trip to Iowa I was able to drive to their store for a visit. It's a milsurplus' dream come true. No less than 500 long arms on display along with a few hundred pistols. The guy at the counter told me there were as many in back that were waiting to be displayed but there was no room.

If you call Simpsons, ask for Floyd. He's a great guy, retired LEO, and will go back and go through several selections for you. His opinion is golden and you'll be very happy with anything he advises on.

I have seen one "cracked stock" SAMCO rifle. It was not cracked but did have two arsenal repairs. Very well done repairs.

I've asked Floyd to give me an opinion on a milsurp from the website a number of times. I've never been disappointed when one of his recommendations arrived.
