I saw some 6.5x55 at Bass pro the other day. What commercial ammo can be fed safely in the Ljungman? Ive heard they need low pressure like the Garand.

Adjust the gas system for the rounds you are using. Start at the lower settings & work up until you get enough ejection.Comment

I do not own a Ljungman but am considering getting one. According to what I have read, the Ljungman does not have an adjustable gas system. The Hakim, which is pretty much an 8mm version built by Egypt, does have an adjustable gas system.sigpic

The commercial 6.5x55 is loaded to the correct pressure. Because the main rifle out there that uses it is the Swedish mauser, the ammunition is loaded to reflect this. And since the Ljungman was designed to use the same ammo...

That is correct...no gas adjustment on the Ljungman. I've got a couple of Hakims and have wondered how much trouble it would be to add the gas adjustment valve to one of my Ljungmans...a fool and his money were lucky to get together in the first place...Comment

What's the big brass knob on the top side of a Ljungman? I had heard that was the gas adjuster, not true?To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

So, is it just reloads you have to be careful with? I've heard that the Ljungman is particular about ammo but I didn't get the full story. I was led to believe that using the wrong ammo could be dangerous with this rifle...Comment

The only knob is the range drum. You can use PRIVI 6.5 ammo if you don't make your own. Graf's stocks it at a fair price.

have 4 ljungman and still trying to have mj1 above there accept my offer for the 5th.
In short, no gas adjustment. there are 'bleeder screws' that people make to make an adjustment of sort, however, requires permanent modification and drilling and treading a hole right above your gas block. PRVI works good. 6.5 surplus has dried up, thus it is a non-issue. Swedish troops were instructed to lightly oil their rounds to assist with ejection timing as a workaround for higher pressure military ammo (m/41) developed in the 40s. Awesome fun guns. Do NOT leave your mag anywhere as these beast where issued 1 magazine only to be fed via a stripper clip (well, 2 for 10 rounds) and magazine was only to come off for cleaning - I have not seen JUST A MAGAZINE for sale for an actual Ljungman for over a year. Hakim magazines will work (8mm) however, hit and miss with feeding, especially SP rounds. Some have modified MG-13 mags for these - but I have never tried one myself nor can find anyone to machine those for me.
are there confirmed reports of catastrophic failure with a higher pressure rounds and AG-42b(s)? YES. Have I came close to a 'trouble situation'? YES, I have. Lucky for me I had an older mag that I was using that day without retaining clip (as mj1 has there on his) - after 3rd rd, it started to blow magazine out with S&B 140gr FMJ - I stopped. Other people whom did not stop or simply did not know it was about to blow (retaining clip on a mag does a good job at masking pressure troubles) had their guns literally blow up on them.
I love Ag-42, but it is to be treated with caution if not reloading specifically for it. PRVI does work better than other commercial ammo.looking for 6.5x55swede rifles:
M94 - matching, complete& without barrel extension. Years: 1895 & 1898.
M95 (kammarkarbin) - matching & complete carbine
FSR89
M/96 - matching ideally. Years: 1895 & 1898.
WTB: Swedish Ljungman (AG42B) 10rd magazines.

I have a couple of hundred rounds of surplus and assume it is safe. I've also used Prvi, although it is hard on the brass. I usually put a light coat of Borden's "slide all" on the brass and that appears to assist in feeding.
I've also thought about using pull down "wooden bullet" ammo with correct powder and bullet. Just not sure what powder to use.Last edited by Mustang; 06-06-2012, 2:09 PM....a fool and his money were lucky to get together in the first place...Comment

Those are some nice looking rifles. Alas, I only have a Hakim. Cool, but not as cool as those.
