K31 Range Report

Took the K31 to the Range for the first time. Must say it was very nice to shoot. Very Windy day, sand blowing around everywhere. Most impressed with the trigger pull, suprised me at first.

I think many -- most -- first-time K31 shooters have the same reaction! I know I did!

IMO the K31 do have the nicest trigger on a military rifle for that era. However, after spending some time shooting my match prepped SA 1903 with a single stage Timney trigger that breaks at 10 oz and zero creep, it makes the K31 trigger feel awful.

Doesn't that put you rifle in open class? so you can still use a diopter.

Of course that's the diffference between a hunting rifle trigger and a good battle rifle trigger. I don't like surprises. I want the light take-up, the stop and gauged release on all of my rifles.

This rifle do have Lyman diopter front sight along with fully bedded action. That is the reason I don't shoot it at our matches as I could not compete with scoped rifles. However, I do have more than one 1903 to choose from so I just shoot one of my other 1903s with military sights.

Here are some pics of the 1903 along with one of my K31 with diopter SP front/rear sights. Notice the the barrel date of 1918 on the 1903...bright bore and very tight TE 1 MW 0.5. Both of these rifles are extremely accurate but only use it at the 300 yard range to punch paper.
