    Remington .35 Rem

    Hi Crazy Timed out Gunners,

Any of you fellas with some history under your belt (old farts), have time behind a Remington M8 or M81? Any caliber will do but I'm eyeballing an M81 in .35 Rem. It's obviously been in the field a few times, is kinda rough, stock carry worn and dinged, has a receiver aperture, sorta looks like a Tech Site the way it cradles the receivers rear but does increase the sight picture substantially. I'm after the caliber because it's what Hammer used to dispatch Bonnie & Clyde, I know it's a good Kali deer round for most distances game is acquired. When I was a wee lad, I humped a borrowed M8 in .30 Rem my first couple outings. In the '60s it was 50 years old then. My primary concerns are what parts might be in question. Is the barrel likely to be shot out or recoil springs worn? I'm thinking not for a seasonal use weapon, and the M81 was somewhat "newer". Thanks guys for any input. PAX

I'd love to find one of the FBI ones, but have no other input. If you get it, reach out, I've got some 35 Rem ammo I'd part with for a good price.

I've got two Remington M81's, both in .30 Remington (one is a former FBI rifle). They are fun to shoot and reasonably accurate, but have an odd recoil, probably because of the heavy recoil spring around the barrel. Due to ammo availability issues, currently I would only buy one in .35 Remington or .300 Savage

Spyder, I'm going after the one I found and will chase down your ammo as soon as a buyer of a couple of my guns gets off the fence, you know how that goes, PAX

Mustang the one I've been looking at has an aperture like your bottom rifle. I thought it was unique (looks aluminum) and didn't see any manufacturer on the site. Are they a factory option? The gun in question isn't quite so nice wood wise, but my neighbor redoes competition shotguns and I'll see if he can give it the once over. Are they difficult to tear down for carry? Thanks fellas, PAX

The rear aperture sight on the bottom rifle is an aftermarket Redfield sight for the rifle. Not sure if it was a factory option.

Very easy to takedown for carry, if you mean separating the barrel and receiver. Simply remove the front handguard (held on by one screw) and that exposes a nut with a folding lever to screw and unscrew the barrel assembly.

Thanks. I think I'm going after it. They're asking $650 and if I can get them to throw in some loose ,35 they have, 30 rounds new but no box. so much the better. PAX

I'd be hard pressed to not buy it at that price.

I've been looking for one in 30 Remington. Why? I used to have a Model 14 in 30 Remington.... sold the rifle, kept the brass and dies. 😁
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Ammo is a real problem now for the .30 and .32 caliber rifles . When I got my first 81, Remington was still making .30 Remington brass and PCI was still making loaded ammo at reasonable prices. I stocked up at the time
