    scoping a mosin

So I got a Simmons 4x pistol scope from Capnemo and don't quite understand how to mount it to my mosin. I have heard the best way is to take off your rear sight, then mount the scope to the dovetails. Are these dovetails dual-dovetails? What kind of rings do I need? Do I need a mount? And where can I purchase these near the bay area? Or will I have to order online?

I installed a NcSTAR Long Eye Relief - 2-7x32 Scope on my Mosin 91/30 using the Leapers LP-MT-RGPMOFS38-25H4 Dovetail Mount from Optics Planet. I removed the rear sight assembly and installed this mount on the receiver's dovetail.

The mount includes the 1" rings and provides an inexpensive and solid setup to handle the 91/30's strong recoil. Check the positive reviews on Optics Planet for this mount.

Sorry to stray from the scope thread...thanks for the comments. My Mosin's (so far): 1931 Tula Hex, 1943 Izhevsk

Yes,these 91/30's are refinished, as I didn't like the "Russian Arsenal Red Shellac" brushed-on look. These stocks were Arsenal replaced, so nothing lost in collector value ($100-150). Like, I wouldn't do it to an original Sniper rifle or nicely oiled stock.

            I use a simple process...
1.) Mineral Spirits for the metal (dissolves cosmoline)
2.) Formby's Furniture Refinisher (dissolves old varnish, lacquer and shellac without stripping). Light sanding with 320 grit
3.) MinWax Red Mohogany Stain (for a darker Russian Red look)
4.) Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil Gun Stock Finish (to protect the stock). #0000 steel wool between 4-6 coats.
5.) A little TLC and shooting!

I also float the barrel, add shims between the receiver/stock and tune up the trigger to improve accuracy.
