    Reducing my C&R Collection

As I am approaching 80 I have decided to start selling most of what I have collected since I do not have anyone in my family interested in C&R guns only modern plastic ones. I have been a Imperial Luger collector for a while (1914-1918) some unit marked, some with matched mags all original finish. I do not have shooters and guns with a bad finish as I have been a condition collector. I have a few 1906 1st issue Navies, American Eagles, and Swiss 1906 Waffenfabrik Bern. There are a few Artillery Lugers with stocks and holsters. Outside of the Imperials my other area of collecting is prewar and wartime Walther PPK's commercial and police e/c. If you have a particular interest pm me and I will take pictures and send to you. I live in the greater Bay Area and can meet at an ffl01 that works for both parties and do a pp transfer. I will not ship. Curt

Have you thought about using an auction house?
Granted, you have to pay a commision.
Both of these places listed below have quite a national following on gunbroker.
They take very good pictures and write good descriptions.
I believe they will come to you and pick everything up.

I have used both of them and they do a good job.

+1 Great guys at LSB. Along with auctions, they also buy entire collections.

I convinced a friend of mine to send at least some if his collection to Rock Island Auctions. With their help his guns were listed in an appropriate auction and sold for more (including fees) than they would have locally and MUCH more than the lowballers at Bay Area Gun Vault offered.

Thanks for the suggestions but I am not interested in selling entire collection maybe 4-6 that would fill a need in somebody's collection. If no interest that's okay too.

Yeah, selling to a store is generally not a good idea. However, given that the auction house takes ~20% from both the buyer and seller in commission, a gun that someone is willing to pay $1200 for, you only have to sell for $800 to break even with going through an auction house. I've seen no reason to go through an auction house for anything Ive sold from my collection, as I generally seem to be able to get more than that $800 equivalent when I sell myself.

Sounds like you're a good guy that wants to see them go to a good home.

The 2 that I mentioned (LSB & Mt. Mccoy) only take a cut from the seller.
They do not charge a buyers premium.

To answer a few questions: I do not collect M1s so I have none, pricing on Artilleries it is complicated as one has a matching number stock to the gun as well as very nice holster and leather attaching pieces. Another is a 1914 Erfurt Artillery in very nice condition, most are beat up as they were well used and Erfurt only made Artileries one year. Another is a 1916 which is a hard year to find in any condition. The 4" Lugers some have matching mags, some are unit marked, some have holsters and extra mags. The ppk's some have the mottled grips, black grips, Akah holsters, extra magazines. My collection is probably for advanced collectors so too complicated to just start taking pictures without specific interest.

LSB is listing 15% cash and 19% CC buyers premium in their latest catalog, so maybe it changed?

They have different kinds of auctions.

If you want your item listed in the catalog and sold in one of their Live Auctions, then those fees apply.
LSB started conducting these types of auction in 2024.

They have been using Gunbroker for online auctions since 2020. Previous to using GB, they used GunAuction.
I believe the online (seller) commission is 25%, but couldn't find the rate listed on LSB's website (funny that it's not mentioned on their FAQ page, guess you have to call and ask).
Personally, I would try and negotiate the rate down.
GB started a 1% compliance fee a while back and I would guess that gets passed on to the buyer and LSB currently charges a 4% to use a CC.
They have a large national following for what they sell on GB.

Here's their current GB list of items. https://www.gunbroker.com/all/search...ellers=6089078

I would choose the online auction path, but then again, I don't have anything rare/valuable enough to ignite a feeding frenzy in a live auction.

Other online sellers, like Keystone, also only charge a sellers fee for their GB auction so that makes sense.
