How special is my CMP Special??

Just got her on Friday, serial number in the 3,500,000 range which is WWII right? Anyway, I didnt request a WWII serial but I think I got one. here's some pics:





shot beautifully on Saturday, I was NAILING tannerite cannisters at 50 yards, cant wait to put the NM front site blade...
Next month I'm ordering a service grade, this one's too pretty to go plinking in the woods with...

BTW, I fired 60 rds. mostly left handed without a problem, so if other lefties out there are worried, it didnt seem like a big deal to me. However reloading was awkward left handed....

Lovely rifle, I have one too but yours had better throat and muzzle numbers!

Where do you shoot at Tannerite? I have heard it is legal in Cali but I have heard too that you have to be VERY cautious about where you set it off. Desert?

One of the garand history websites had a chart which showed the 3 .5 million to 4 million serial range was produced in 1944, 1945 but I'm no garand history expert so I'll have to do more research. This one is a Springfield Armory.
We were shooting tannerite in a remote location on the northern side of FEMA region IX...

Others in my group were having trouble hitting the tannerite bottles with tricked out ARs and mini14's with eotechs and scopes, I busted out the garand and boom boom boom nailed 5 in a row, it was awesome. The garand is an absolute joy to shoot. Truly a remarkable piece of machinery

3.5 million serial is early 1945, highest WW2 serial is around high 3.8 mil, although i heard of a few in the 3.9 million range. I have a 3,851,xxx, beautiful gun, as is yours. If you pull the operating rod back you will see the date the barrel was made stamped into the barrel. It might be '45 dated but there is evidence some late war receivers were stored, with final assembly being in the early '50's. enjoy. JT

Did the serial numbers get assigned to the different MFGr? I have an HRA made post Korea. Guess I'll have to open the safe when I get home..

Yup, 3.5M is early '45. Mine was Feb-March. It's hard to say if they ever made it to the front in time or were post WWII. You can look up some charts and see where your batch went. Have you inspected it to see who made the other pieces? Judging from the barrel wear, that's a new modern barrel. Looks like a Boyd stock.

Its about as special as one in 6 million, but it will shoot much better then most.

Specials have new barrels and new stocks....all garands are special in their own way.

What grade is this and what are they now getting for them. Very nice looking rifle and is about what I'm looking for. A garand is about the only obtainable rifle I would like to have that I have never owned.

Yeah its a cmp "special" so it has a new barrel and new stock. Since it's a 1945 is there's a chance the receiver saw action, that's pretty darn cool. That's what I meant about "how special" maybe it was in the battle of the bulge or somethin'...
