    Would these qualify as C&R?

Would these qualify as C&R: MP-40, PPSh-41, DP-28. Of course all of these in semi-auto configuration. And also just curious, would any of these would be legal in CA in full auto, since all of these guns are WAY over 50 years old. I wouldn't mind getting mp-43 or Sturmgewher also .

Please do a search. It will answer most of your questions. Basically, no on most questions.

    Would these qualify as C&R: MP-40, PPSh-41, DP-28.
Not if modified to be a legal semi-auto. You can't have them in Ca in full auto. (with a few exceptions)

If you want full auto you need to move to a free state that allows you to buy "Class 3" guns. You will have to jump through some hoops and pay high prices once you've moved.

    Here's an example of pricing:
Shop guns, ammo & accessories at Impact Guns — online since 1996. Handguns, rifles, shotguns & ammo from top brands. Competitive prices, ships to your FFL.

    mp43 $19,999.00

So you think a state that forces us to use MMG and BB/Prince50 kits on a semi-auto rifle will allow full-auto?

And as the above poster posted, they are EXTERMELY EXPENSIVE. If you can afford guns like that you can afford to setup a trust or LLC in AZ/NV/UT and visit them once a month. Heck, if you can plunk down $20,000 plus on a fun plinker you can problbly retire now and move somewhere else that allows them.

        Thanks for the input...

It's unfair that our state government puts us in front of the choice between great weather and owning the guns we want.... Makes you think, which one you love most.

Actually, to answer your question, yes, the MP-40, PPSh-41 and DP-28 in original FA configuration are C&R's. In fact, some states will allow you to own a FA, but it must be a C&R.

If they were converted to semi-auto, they would lose their C&R status (and 98% of their value).

You can buy those firearms in SA in CA so long as they are configured to comply with CA AW laws. You would have a pretty hard time getting the MP-40 to comply but the PPSh-41 and DP-28 are pretty much CA compliant with just the addition of a 16" barrel. Your biggest problem with all of those however would be the magazines. Nobody makes a 10 rounder so you'd be stuck with having to make one yourself.

City Arms had a compliant semi-auto PPSh rescetly, but these are built on modern semi-auto receivers, so they aren't C&R for another 50 years.

While on the subject of the DP28, I don't think I have ever seen a complete DP28 in automatic. I have seen DP28 parts kits, you can build these (in semi auto of course) and cut off the flash hider and they are now CA legal. But you have a magazine issue, as far as I know they only make those drum mags.

There are Semi - Auto Bren guns that have been configured for the CA market.
They have no flash hiders and the pistol grip has ben replaced by a wooden nub. 1928 Thompsons have something similar as well. If you can find any of the old Catco SA-2 Sten semi-auto's they are also 12276 compliant.

                      Good luck & happy hunting

the MP38/40 can be compliant as a pistol- obviously it needs to be semi-automatic, but most re-enactors have MP's with the stock hard-set (welded) in the collapsed position.

                        they are still pretty pricey-

As to the FG42 or STG43/44- those fetch serious coin...to make one of them CAL compliant would make little baby Jesus cry...

Negative. The MP40 can't be built legally as a pistol in CA since it has a magazine outside of the pistol grip. I guess you could make a 10 round mag and make it non-detachable, but that would be pretty worthless for such an expensive firearm.

If the AR15 mods were in place it would likely pass muster- i.e. pinned 10 round magazine, and a bullet button style mag lock- it would "look" right- be be far from being "right"...

it would likely need to meet the specs listed in this document...

the ones Bill Guiette has were "rewatted" from war trophies I believe- at least his STG44...

Even with a 10rds mag, a custom made mag lock, welded non-folding stock, the MP40 is still an NFA long gun as it only has a 9.9" barrel, and the fact it fires from an open bolt.
