    Remington M91 Sighting

    Hi Gunnners,

Anyone needing a Remington M91 for their collection? There's one at Barnwood in Ripon. Pretty nice. First one I've seen in the wild, PAX

wow...$700.. That USA made I guess will get close to that range. I would probably go for a $700 Rem Finn M39 : ) , definitely not a regular 91/30

Regular 91/30s are up towards $600 now. If I were closer I'd snatch up a Remington at $700 if it was a PPT. Tax kills that deal when it bumps it to $900 OTD.

I thought about it but passed on price point, although it's the first one I've seen live. It might be a hidden item to the shop, they price high in general and aren't real C&R savvy. Tax & fees kill everything. At one time I had a mess of Big 5s 91/30s, all picked pre 2014 Cash & Carry for under a hunnerd bucks. I've only got 2 Finns 91/30s, an M44 and an M38 Mosin's left. Over the decades they've been good barter fodder. PAX

I've had this Remington M-91 for 20 years. Remington never made 91-30's. My M-91 never left the US.

Remington receivers did make it to Finland. The only way to tell the receiver was made by Remington without taking the action out of the stock is the Remington style imperial eagle and Cyrillic letter (looks like a square upside down U) under the eagle. If you take the action out of the stock you can see the circler R on the bottom of the tang identifying the receiver as being made by Remington.

The top rifle of the three pictured is a Finnish Tikka made M/91. You can see the marks I mentioned in the other pic's.

The one at the LGS isn't as sweet as yours SVT. I'd pay $700 if it looked like your M91, yours is really boss....like your stuff usually is PAX

I have a Remington stamped striker in one of my 91/30s. I could use the rest of the rifle.

Did anyone ever confirm if the OP's find is a M91 or a M91/30? A Remington M91 cannot be made directly into a 91/30, the barrel is a different length. Only Dragoons were made into 91/30s, and Remington never made those. As SVT points out, it would have to be fully rebarrelled. The barrel shank would be different and no longer say Remington. Finns did this, though it wouldn't be hard for a gunsmith to do a barrel swap sometime in the last 50 years. Perhaps if the original barrel was badly eroded. In which case, it seems a "not C&R savvy" seller would not know it was a Remington at all. If the barrel shank is still Remington, then it would be a M91. Or a bubba-cut down I suppose. In today's market a half-decent complete Remington M91 is not bad at $700, doubt you could find one cheaper. SVTs beautiful example is probably multiples of that.

It was an M91 Remington, I didn't know the difference. PAX

Around 20 years ago Big 5 had a ton of Remington M-91s. I didn't buy one as they were pretty beat up. They were from National guard units as after WWI the rifles that didn't make it to Russia were taken by the US Govt. Michigan and Colorado were supposed to have had them.
