What is a good website to use to help with identification of a model 98 German Mauser, such as the proof marks and serial number dating. Thanks.

Be careful with wikipedia some of the Waffenampt codes on there are fakes and have only been added to the list because people are faking Waffen codes and stamping their own to turn a profit...this goes back to the thread about fake rifles.!!WANT TO BUY and looking for shooter/beater/reenacting grade German Waffen proofed handguns from the WWII era. Thank you very much. this was really helpful. I have looked through the serial numbers and I haven't found anything on a serial number starting in S and ending in GS, this is part of the serial number of a rifle I am looking at getting, does anyone know what this means as far as where it was made or if it designates this rifle as something different than the regular ones.Comment
