    CMP Resumes Surplus M1911/1911A1 sales.

Still a two pistol lifetime limit. I grabbed an Ithaca/Ithaca and a Colt/Colt in the 1st and 3rd opportunities.

The latest on the CMP 1911 sales will be posted on this page, including ordering and grade information as well as availability.

I don’t know, $1,300 for a ( most probably) mixmaster rebuild seems a bit steep. Sounds like you were luckier than most OP.

Don’t forget the 11% excise tax + ffl transfer fee + DROS + 7.75% sales tax. So out the door it’s over $1500 for a field grade.

I got Service at round 1, my wife got a Service at round 2, my RGN for round 4 was about a month away when they shut it down list year.

The 11% tax adds over $125 compared with what it would have been last year before the shut down.

I got a service grade in round 2 with a post-war commercial slide. I'll probably pass.

The "Range Grade" may yield some "interesting" variants.
Range Grade $1150. These are 1911 pistols for those that want a part of history and a shooter, not a collectable. These are 1911s that have been modified in some way, and may have some commercial parts. No two (2) pistols are alike, the modifications / parts could be any of the following: Night Sights, extended Beaver Tail, Rubber Grips, Barrels, Oversized Slide Release, Target Triggers, Adjustable Rear Sights, Tactical Match Hammer, Competition Grip Safety, Sight Rib, Slides, Checkered Front Strap, Ambidextrous Safety, Different Finishes. Some of the manufactures of these parts are: Bar-Sto, Wilson, Ed Brown, Pachmayer, Hogue, Caspian and Bomar.

For some reason the "Range Grade" aren't being shipped to California.

Range grades don’t qualify as C&R and are not on the Cali roster. That’s why they can’t ship to CA.

When it says "Pistols may contain commercial parts" are those parts that were installed by the military armorers or later by CMP?

Mailed my packet over yesterday. First time ordering through CMP. Trying to decide between a Rack grade and Field grade. I prefer one with original finish wear

Those are parts installed at the unit level. Really cool stuff too. I believe that is what disqualifies them from being Curio and Relic.

They should qualify because they are in their original military configuration.

What number drawing are they currently on for the waitlist? I signed up for the last round and think I'm in the 45,000 range. That was probably 2 years ago. I got one in the first round and not sure if I'll get another. I ended up with a 1990's commercial replacement slide on a Colt 1944 frame. The other parts like safety and slide release looked mixed and possibly commercial as well. I wanted a WW2 period pistol so it didn't seem worth the $1,200 at the time. I would have been better off buying a WW2 original condition pistol directly for pretty much the same money.

That's a lot of money for a pistol that doesn't use all the original military parts. I know, actual wartime frames and slides, I get it. Still, though, a used Remington 1911R1, Springfield Armory 1911, or Ruger SR1911 is less than half that price in most parts of the country (not sure about California these days).

The M1 Garands do tend to use original military parts, some of them reparkerized. Special grades do use new wood furniture, I think made by Boyd's for the CMP, but at least that's official CMP furniture. At the prices for the 1911's, I'd probably go for a Garand first.

Getting close to my RGN, and opting for one Service and one Field if available...will post up pictures once they arrive. Other than some family heirlooms handed down, these are the first C&R purchases that I have made.

Perhaps I should buy a lottery ticket:

                              1943 Colt/Colt Service Grade
1944 Remington Rand/Remington Rand Field Grade

Mostly original parts and finish, with a few replacements. The RR is 99.9% as good condition as the Colt. Each has plenty of wear and genuine .MIL usage marks. Both are fairly tight for 80+ year old relics.

Can't wait to see what the FOIA reports come back with on them.

Cleaned and will take out to the range tomorrow. Far right is my SA Gov't model for reference.
