Is A Japanese School/Training Rifle Considered A Weapon?

Is a smooth bore or blank firing T38 trainer considered a weapon? If old enough I presume it would fall into antique status, thanks. PAX

Probably considered a firearm because of the receiver. It's definitely not a antique. That would require it to be pre 1898.

      It is considered a firearm.

It probably shouldn't be since it can't fire real ammo without exploding, but it is.

Yeah I had to suck it up and ship the one I won at an auction a couple of years ago through a FFL. fortunately I got it cheap enough so that it was still a decent deal. Which model is it? A school marked rifle, "Peace" rifle, or?

Mine is what is called a "Peace Rifle" it has a smooth bore and I believe it was meant to shoot wooden bullets, but I have never tried to chamber a live round in it It does appear to have a machined steel receiver, but I seriously doubt if it is heat treated. It is otherwise pretty much like a Type 38 and will accept a type 30 bayonet..

I don't know the specific details of the current rifle I stumbled on, it's in pretty poor shape and barely worth the asking price. With shipping from Texas and DROS it's a deal breaker for the condition. I have a school rifle and a training T38 carbine and this new one would otherwise fit the collection. It comes in a package with a Japanese Carcano (rough too) so that's twice as expensive to process. Too bad, PAX

I bet that's the same package I was looking at. 3 bills. But with tax and dros it's not worth it.
