    What is it?

    Or, What was it?

So, I'm reading news articles and I see one about a police seizure in Sac. I check out the pics and see this severe hack job cutdown C&R rifle . At first glance I think Mosin but no magazine. What is it?

They got an SVT-40 . Whats looks like a Russian SKS. SP1, all kinds. Its good they're out of gang idiots hands but sad they will be soon be rebar.

Hard to tell without seeing the top. Can't tell if that is the original stock cut down or a piece of wood cut to fit. Don't see too many bolt guns without a trigger guard, or bolts to hold the action into the stock. I like the hose clamp "barrel band" idea. If that's all from the same source, that's an interesting collection.

Is it a cut down WZ-48 trainer? That would be too lame to waist a felony on.

An Artillery Luger, Hun SA-85M AK, and a SVT-40. They'll be going to the cutting torch too, unless they were stolen and get returned to the owner.

I thought WZ48 initially but the the bolt profile seems different and there is a routered inlay for a trigger guard on a WZ

I've heard that more "historic" pieces sometimes aren't destroyed by the departments, but are sometimes kept as a mini-museum by the department. Maybe there's hope yet

Mosin, it's rare, but I hope it happens. Damned shame, there was a time in Calif when any of those guns that weren't stolen, were auctioned off for the proceeds.
I used to work for a central Calif county, and the guns heading out to the county yard to get torched would come through my work area in a shopping cart. It was against the rules, but the Sheriffs would let me snag parts if they had the time. One day there was an Artillery Luger, complete with shoulder stock and snail drum, an 1886 Winchester, and a Belgian Browning Superposed Broadway Trap laying on top. All were in mint condition, stolen from a now deceased collector, with no relatives. I told them there was no way they could cut those up. "Not all of em meet the torchman", that's when I quit asking questions.

I'm just hoping some law abiding gun owners are going to be getting some phone calls about "found" items.
