Years ago I bought a yugo SKS from Turners and I'm thinking about selling. Is there any reason why I shouldn't sell it C&C? Of course, my concern is that after i sell it somebody does something stupid with it and the gun's only paper trail comes back to me via dealer record of sale.

Unless you're "Yugo SKS" is a Zastava M59, it needs to be transferred through a CA FFL dealer because the Zastava M59/66 & M59/66A1 are less than 50 years old and do not qualify for legal transfers without the use of a CA FFL dealer.
In order to qualify for legal transfers without the use of a CA FFL dealer, the rifle/shotgun/other needs to be 50 or more years old. [PC 27965]
Penal Code 27965
(a) If all of the following requirements are satisfied, Section 27545 does not apply to the sale, loan, or transfer of a firearm:
(1) The sale, loan, or transfer is infrequent, as defined in Section 16730.
(2) The firearm is not a handgun.
(3) The firearm is a curio or relic manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date but is not a replica, as defined in Section 478.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations, or its successor.
(b) This section shall remain in effect only until January 1, 2014, and as of that date is repealed, unless a later enacted statute, that is enacted before January 1, 2014, deletes or extends that date.sigpic

A lot of people think their Yugo's are older than they really are. Check this site for the date of manufacture

hrmm, so even though it's on the ATF C&R list it's not C&C because it's less than 50 years old? Yeah in CA it has to be 50 years or older no matter what. Other wise needs to go to FFL for transfer. From what I know on them most if not all the Yugos are not C&R under CA rules.Last edited by big103; 05-06-2012, 2:41 PM.All Right MEOWComment

Fair enough, I'd rather it had a paper trail separating it from me, anyhow. Call me paranoid.

All Yugos are C&R in California. Everything that the Feds say is C&R is also C&R in California. It's just that to avoid California dealer transfer requirements a C&R firearm also has to be a long gun and also has to be over 50 years old.__________________

I thought as long as both buyer and seller had an 03FFL you could transfer as C&R? Long guns only and must be on the list of course.

California generally requires firearms transfers in California to go through a California licensed dealer. There is an exemption for C&R long guns that are 50+ years old. This exemption applies to everybody in California. There is no extra exemption for C&R FFLs.
If the buyer is a C&R FFL then the California buyer and seller can both travel outside of California and transfer a C&R handgun or C&R long gun of any age. But while inside California a C&R FFL is still limited to 50+ year old C&R long guns if he wants to avoid a dealer transfer.__________________

long guns = firearms that are not handguns, so any Title 1 rifle/shotgun/other.sigpic

Yugo M59's are not C&C in california as there is no definitive production dates on the rifle. If they were I'd have a lot more in my collection!

So, now that we've concluded that my 59/66 cannot be sold C&C, anyhow, I'm still curious about the original question at hand.
Say I wanted to sell my finn nagant, which I also drosed, would anyone else feel reluctant to sell it C&C when the last paper trail associated with the gun ends at you?Originally posted by MelvinoelGreat**My friend, your Chargers sure are looking good tonight. IIRC after certain amount of days long gun DROS' are discarded. If they are now kept/retained I would like to know also.
Are you a 03FFL? I'm assuming no. If you feel reluctant then get some basic info from the buyer like name and DL # and ask to see their license. 03FFL's usually get basic info to "dispose" a LG to a buyer.Comment

No 03FFL, have been considering one, but not sure if it's worth it with long gun registration looming.IIRC after certain amount of days long gun DROS' are discarded. If they are now kept/retained I would like to know also.
