    P38 BYF44 value

    Hi guys,

Just saw a BYF44 p38 in my local gun store, its in very good condition. It has original finish (not refurbished), all number matching, nazi proof marks and comes with Jvd magazine with German proof marks. Asking $2000.

    serial# 5240 B

    Is it a fair price?

    Thanks

Seems way high. You should check Gunbroker for completed sales for a ball park on pricing. Id it import marked? The markings can be very small and hard to see. Sometimes on the bottom areas of the slide rails.

What do you think is a reasonable price? Serial# 5240, couldn't check on import marks.

Theres one listed on gunbroker with holster for $2200

Listed price is irrelevant. You need to search for completed sales

As I said before the asking price is to high.

The picture is too dark to tell quality of finish. To get $2000 for a very common P38 it would need to be exceptional so lots of pictures that are well lit including interior to make sure locking block is matching and and in the white.

It is too high for an average P38. The Nazi stamp should be in white as it was applied after the finish. Many guns have been imported and not stamped. It is hard to tell if it is dipped or not so verify the locking block plunger is white.

The pic isn't much help. I checked on Gunbroker for actual completed sales. Nice examples were selling for under $1,000 . Walk away from the one in the pic, it's priced way to high. If you want one be patient and you can save around $1,000.

Check out Simpsons. They always have a bunch of P-38's and Lugers The P-38 in the link below is nice.

Nothing wrong with a Russian capture. Lots of history there.
Price and condition is what matters.

Yes there is nothing wrong with a RC, but the gun must be priced appropriately. 2K for a common code RC is way over priced.

Go to gun show. There could be some in decent shape. Demand to test shoot and check barrel and decocker. Then buy. I would not buy RC. They can pull them from a swamp after 80 years, restore and sell. See utube.

Lol. No one is going to let you "test shoot" their gun. How would that happen anyway? You can't walk outside and capp off a few rounds into the air...

                              Lol

When you buy at a gun show it's the responsibility of the buyer to check the firearm and make sure it's as described. Or walk away.

If someone said they wanted to shoot a gun I was selling. I would laugh and tell them to get lost.

It's easy to test the decocking mechanism without shooting it. Same with the barrel.

RC guns can be fantastic guns and make great shooters. Few were pulled from swamps. In fact most were imported over 20 years ago.
