    Gunsmithing a Mossberg Brownie...anyone capable?

My Dad got a wild hair up his *** and bought a Mossberg Brownie, but is having trouble with it due to light primer (rim?) strikes from the rotating firing pin.

Can anyone recommend a Gunsmith inside or outside CA with the chops to work on such an eclectic firearm?

A buddy of mine had one of those decades ago. The rotating firing pin goes back to the mid 19th century when Sharps and several other makers were producing the 4 barrel rimfire pepperbox. Some were in .32 RF and some were in .22 RF.

Parts will be next to impossible to find. As for reasons for a light strike --could be many reasons -- I'd look around the chamber area to make sure the rim is still well supported by the chamber where the FP strikes. Someone may have dry fired that Mossberg too much. I believe it has an internal hammer -- and it may need a new mainspring. That could be custom made from spring wire.

My guess is the lock up is a but loose causing excessive headspace thus cuasing light strikes. At least that the problem with mine.

I just sent an extra hammer and firing pin assembly for a Sharps to another member here. He's fixing a customer's gun and custom making a mainspring for my Uberti copy of a Sharps pepperbox. He might be willing to fix your Brownie. I'll send him a link to this thread.

Actually, it's my own gun. I don't yet have an FFL, but when I do, I can probably fix that.

If it's striking light on all of them, then either the pin is worn down, or the spring is soft.
