Looks looks it's an Armor Piercing, Incendiary, High velocity, Smoke cartridge. Used in aircraft machine guns.

It can be seen here in the fourth set of cartridges down, second in from the left.

Got it from a yard sale along with a few other ww2 German items. No head stamps. It's a cutaway dummy round used in a factory display that I think is period original to 1942.

Thanks for the info. The last link has same 1942 dated display box. I think these may well be period cutaway demo display items from factory?
