    Saginow m1 carbine

    Help a brother out. I want a m1 carbine but I don't know a lot about them which is why I haven't bought one yet. Today I saw a saginaw m1 at a LGS for $700. The metal looks nice, barrel is clean I didn't check the maker. Didnt see an import mark. Issue is the stock. It is a GI stock with a rIA cartouche but the stock has been redone- it's lacquered and shiny and the handguard rattles like a can of krylon.
    I know folks hate these threads but is this a good deal, average or run away?

      The maker is Saginaw there were quite a few manufacturers of the M1 carbine during the war. The RIA cartouche is for Rock Island Armory were it was reworked post war, they would change out barrels, add the bayonet lug and the stacked adjustable sight. As far as a shiny finish that definatly after market and look on a carbine is not my cup of tea. $700 for that rifle sounds a tad high, if I were you I would troll the 'for sale' forums here on CG and also on the CMP forums, it will help you save some money and those guys are always very helpful, honest, and don't sell garbage guns. I'm working with a seller right now who's agreed to $500 for an Underwood made carbine. Don't settle for what's at your LGS there are still deals to be had, you just got to look.
      !!WANT TO BUY and looking for shooter/beater/reenacting grade German Waffen proofed handguns from the WWII era. I just want shooters, Im not looking to spend oodles of money, I just want shootable examples to play with!!

      !!!Also looking for a shooter/rack grade USGI M1 Carbine (Earlier the date the better)!!!

                          It has both. Along with the buggered stock. Im happy i passed.
