That is an opinion type question, but here goes. I like a Pietta Remington 1858 in 44 cal Cheap (I bought mine used for $100) and shoots okay for BP pistol. spent a few bucks on treso stainless nipples good to go. specifically the 1858 Remington has a top strap which I prefer.

pietta and uberti are both great brands, one thing to remember is do NOT buy a brass framed gun, get a steel framed. I had an 1858 remington and an 1860 colt , both .44's. I like the looks of the Colts, but the functionality and ease of replacing the cylinder on the remington is awesome. So its up to you

I agree with m1a1driver. I have both the 1858 Remington and 1860 Colt, each made by Pietta's, and I also prefer the look of the Colt. Some say the Uberti's are better quality, but I've been impressed with the Pietta's and they are less costly.

Check out Cabelas. They often have these BP revolvers on sale, and sometimes you can couple that with a free shipping promotion. I once got a new 1860 Colt for under $160 because it was on sale, there was a free shipping promotion, and another discount for orders over $150.

In addition, since they are BP replicas, they ship right to your door. Good luck!
I love it when a plan comes together.

Some people are very fond of the Ruger Old Army which they don't make anymore. Built like a tank, very accurate.

If you just want something decent and easier to find the above info's right on. I like the 1858 Remington myself but the Colt's definitely in the same league. And yeah, if Cabelas is running a good sale they're remarkably cheap. But do get a steel one - the brass ones work fine but you have to be careful about keeping your loads under some approved size.
