    Holbrook device for M1 Garand?

Although I love the sound of that beautiful ring tone upon ejection, I must admit I'm getting a little tired of getting hit in the forehead by the enblock clips flying out of my M1 Garand. I also don't like it when they land in the dirt or mud and get all messy. Does anyone here have any experience with the "Holbrook device"? I've been thinking of getting one of these. Anyone with experience, please let me know if it is worth it or not. Thanks.

As far as I know the device only helps in loading the rifle & not getting the infamous Garand thumb....which should NOT be a problem with a tuned rifle and proper loading. Ask anybody who's had the Garand thumb and 9 outta 10 times they were monkeying with it while it was unloaded. That remaining 1 outta 10 probably because a spring was weak.

Thanks for the reply. It is my understanding that with the Holbrook Device installed, the bolt stays open after the last round and the enblock clip stays in place (i.e., doesn't come flying out at my temple [I'm a lefty]). Can anyone confirm?

Yes I can confirm it.. the Holbrook Device makes a Garand operate like a M1A... you insert the loaded en-bloc and then pull back and release the op rod... when rifle is empty, bolt stays locked back and then you can eject the empty en-bloc by hitting the clip latch... I ran a Holbrook Device for 2 years in my 308 Match Garand.. I really like it! It is not on the rifle now afte r arebuild as I wanted to try something different this time around. Getting hit in the head by en-blocs simply means that the clip ejector spring is most likely worn and has lost tension.

+1 on that lol. Every time I've gotten a nice little kiss on the thumb from a Garand it was when I was at home fiddling around with it. Sure hurts and once left a nice mark on both sides. But one could also consider it an initiation ritual of sorts......

It's almost like clockwork for me; as soon as that eighth round goes flying out of the muzzle, the clip doesn't ping, it thunks as it lands dead center on top of my head....

Isn't a holbrook device just an oprod catch with the rocker taken out and the little hook cut off? Seems like it would be pretty easy to make.

There's also a little spring installed on one side..

The Holbrook Device can be bought through Deans Gun Restorations
Not sure if it can be bought direct from John like I did 6yrs ago. I can't seem to find his e-mail addy.. but I do have his contact info. (needed it to get a replacement spring from him.

Just an update: I ordered my Holbrook Device straight from the inventer/source Mr. John Holbrook himself. It cost $45 (which included shipping) and was very smooth and easy. I found his e-mail by typing "Holbrook Device M1 Garand" in Google. Anyone that is considering one, I recommend you do the same.

I have owned 5 different Garands at one time or another.
Never been hit in the head by a clip.
Or else I have not noticed it as I usually wear a hat.
I think NRAHighPowerShooter may be right about is being a spring tension issue.

                          I love that .... PING .... sound.

                          It sounds like Victory.

I shoot left handed, which I believe makes a difference. Even if it didn't hit me in the head, I don't like the idea of my clips getting all dusty or muddy then going back into the rifle.

Although I love that sound, I think I'm going to like having the device. If not, I can just as easily take it out and sell it.

                              That's cool.
I usually shoot at a range where my clips don't get too dirty.
If I shot more where clips would get dirty/muddy I would want to give that device a try.
