    Collector Reference Books

Which collector books does everyone use? Are there any that you have found to be a waste of cash-ola?

    Thanks,

It depends on what your collecting. I find if you go to a dedicated forum of a certain firearm, you'll find more info. than any collector book. If your into C&R's, Gunboards has a ton of info. You can also do a search of different book titles on these forums to find what the general consenus is about those books. Amazon also allows reviews of the books they sell.

Some of the books I own:
    AR's- BR1 & BR2
Mausers- Backbone of the Wehrmacht, Mausers of the World
M1 Garands- Pretty much all of them
S&W- Latest standard catalog of S&W
Some of the Collectors series books.
I have many more, I just can't remember.

Most of the books here should be GTG:

        Book of The Garand

Paul Borphy also has an excellent book: The 1903 Springfield Rifles

Thanks guys. There's never a lack of information here!

Does anyone know of any books that deal specifically with Belgian military riflles?

          Again, thanks for the info.

            The 1903 Springfield Rifles.
Would that be Col. William Brophy?

Also by the same author (Brophy): Marlin Firearms: A History of the Guns and the Company That Made Them
More Marlin facts and history than anybody would ever need to know! With lots o' pictures. (1989)

            Smith & Wesson 1857-1945 by Robert J. Neal & Roy G. Jinks

Also, the old gunsmithing books by the likes of Baker,
            Harrison, Dunlap or Howe.
Fun to read as well as having info on making tools and replacement parts, stock making/repair, blueing formulas and wood preservation, stains and tuning.

Gunsmithing Kinks is an older, easy reading book to learn all kinds of repairs and problem solving.
It's mostly compiled from letters of many readers giving "how to" hints sent to a gun magazine .
