    Carcano cavalry carbine.

Recently finished putting together a Carcano cavalry carbine. My uncle brought it back from Europe after WWII. He only had the bayonet, barrel, receiver and bolt. Now it has an origional stock, trigger guard and such. This was my first time "restoring" a firearm (the numbers don't all match) and it was an adventure to say the least, but very enjoyable.

These little guns were favorites of the Italian partisan resistance (you could hide one under a raincoat or cape) and were still being issued to the Carabinieri in rural districts as late as the early 1960s.

They were replaced in Carabinieri service by US M-1 carbines (called "Winchesters" by the Italians because the first ones they got were surplus WWII carbines made by Winchester). M-1s were still carried by some Forestry Police the last time I was in Sicily.

If anybody wants to actually SHOOT a Carcano carbine, there is information on loads and reloading and zeroing on a "sticky" at the front of the "Italian Firearms" forum at www.gunboards.com/forums

        Who made your carbine?
