    M1 Garand Sled?

Anyone ever make their own? Made one in my garage today as I'm a lefty and single loading lefty is pretty difficult. I just tried the SLED and I'm STILL kinda nervous about the bolt slamming on my thumb Anyone else in the same boat?

I cheated and used a Holbrook Device. No problems single loading lefty now.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

If it's one round you want to load, have you tried loading a round directly into the chamber, depressing the follower with your thumb while the back of your palm guards the op rod handle? Has always worked for me during slow fire matches or just practice. No chasing clips or sleds.

At least a proprly bent SLED will slow down the bolt. Being a lefty does require some unusual hand manipulations for controlling the op rod handle. I was keeping my left hand holding the wrist of the stock and loading with right hand. But if you're slinged up that won't work.

I've made them before and they work great.

If you think of what will make the bolt go forward, I believe it is the op rod and spring. When the last round is loaded the follower arm allows the op rod catch to return to the position to catch the op rod when it comes back. So unless the op rod doesn't go all the way back, and engage the op rod catch, mechanically you have little risk of the bolt slamming back unexpectedly.

The only thing the SLED does is have the upper lip of the clip there to hold the round in place, and the tab keeps the clip from being ejected when that single round is extracted/ejected.

          You will see the operation.

Here is a similar thread to the one you posted with more information.
