    Century Arms Garands???

My local pawn shop has a century garand for sale for pretty cheap. It's looks very nice but I am hesitant to buy anything from that factory of betel nut chewing primates. Anybody know about these?? Actually built by century or just imported??

Depending on the price it might be worth it just for the parts that are on it. Buy a cmp garand, 650ish for a nice springfield armory service grade

This one is $500, looks beautiful, woods even nice and tiger stripey. I asked if they could gauge the TE and ME, the pawn shop guy looked at me like I had a horn.

500 is not bad, especially for local shop! CMP is obviously the benchmark here, but their rifles are not import marked. Check the muzzle with a 30'06 round. Also you did not mention manufacturer? If low # (5 digits) Springfield Armory, International Harvester, or Winchester, it would be a great buy. Heck, if you've always wanted an M1 it's a good buy!

            how to eyeball muzzlewear:

EDIT Wait a min... is this one of those century MANUFACTURED garands??? Then all bets are off I would not waste money IMO.

A Century Garand is likely just that, a Century made receiver with USGI parts. I have one in my shop on consignment for $600. It is an investment cast receiver from Century with parts from a Danish import parts kit. The Danish guns had to be torched to be imported so Century rebuilt them on new receivers. You can identify the "Danish" guns by the Danish proofs on the barrel. The gun I have has a 50's dated barrel. It's a nice gun for a shooter but little collector value since it is not an original receiver.

That said, $500 for the one the op is looking at is probably a good deal.

I have one. It's a shooter and only a shooter. Back in Pres. Clinton's time, most of the lend/lease program rifles were taken back to the states. By executive order they all had to be shipped disassembled. Century and a few other companies bought the parts and reassembled them. Often with refurbished receivers. $500 is not a bad price for what it is. Mine had some rail, alignment issues but works fine. Just remember it's pretty much a bunch of stray parts assembled together.

Unless it is a commercial cast receiver with thrown in parts.

If it is a Century Import , Maybe worth it.
If it is a CAI cast receiver, PASS!!! They are known for problems
Is the receiver heel bare with no markings, if so its a CAI receiver
