Clean bottom of the barrel, Kentucky Long Rifle

Is there some sort of scrubber or special brush that will help me clean the bottom of the barrel on my long rifle? I want to make sure I'm getting all the gunk out. I'm worried there might be some rust, etc. also. Thanks!

The correct caliber scraper should work pretty well:

Just a thought from a guy who hasn't cleaned a blackpowder weapon in over 20 years. If I remember, the best way is to clean with soap and water, then dry it, and oil it. So, what about water and a denture tab, then soap and water and dry and oil? Just a thought.

Frank, the barrel should have a threaded breech plug, might be a good time to check and see it isn't rusted up?

^ Breech plug is so big with rust, Frank thought it was a thumb rest...

                  Good Luck, Frank.

Just checked, it. Ran a rod down it with a patch, etc. and it's clean. I was worried cause I haven't checked it in awhile. I think I'm okay. And oh yeah, it's BREECH, not bottom-of-the-barrel-thingy, lol.

You should have a jag that fits on your ramrod that has a pair of twisted wires sticking down that is used to retrieve loose patches. Take a small wad of steel wool and twist it on them and use that to scrub the chamber with. You can spin it in the bottom of the chamber to scrub the face of the breech plug and the flash hole.
