is $150 good for a k98?

Hi all,

I just came across a k98 for 150 and it is in really nice shape. All the numbers match and the bore looks good. Only thing is there very few markings. It has k98 stamped on top of the receiver, k98 stamped on the left side of the barrel where is screws into the receiver, has 8mm stamped a little farther down on the barrel and that's about it. All looks original and smooth and markings don't appear to have been ground off. I was trying to play it cool I so I didn't want to take a bunch of pics or salivate all over the thing.

What do you guys think?

No date? No Erfurt 1916 or byf43 or crests? But yes, IMHO I would get it if I was looking for one. I mean, where else can you get a nice rifle for $150?

Just for a simple k98 that`s not a bad deal. Sounds like it might be a k98 that has been scrubbed. Might be a yugo or something else.

I have seen some 1945 German WWII rifles with Mod. 98 on top of the receiver.

I have seen Mod. 98 on the siderails of German WWII 98K's

Don't think I have ever seen k98 on top of a receiver or on the leftside where the barrel screws into the receiver.

8mm on the barrel is probably an importer's mark to conform with legal requirements.

You are basically saying something akin to that you bought a car for $150 and without any pics or further descriptions you want an appraisal.

$150 for an old spanish mauser is not a horrible deal, $150 for a svw MB 45 would be a steal. Somewhere inbetween, maybe? Need pics. Fakers have been making matching numbered rifles for decades, but they don't sell them for $150.

Believe me, I wanted to take pics but I don't think they realized what they had and I didn't want to give them any reason to try and find out more about it. All in all, sounds like it's probably a good deal so I'm going to go get it.
