    New 03 ffl arrived

03 FFL arrived yesterday, sent in form January 9, 2012 so took 2 months
    A couple of questions
even though i have it now, it says expiration date 4-1-2015, does that mean its not valid until 4-1-2012
after i make copies to send do I put the date of 4-1-12 or the current date or the date i send the copy
and 1 more question, Today I recieved an M1 from the CMP, do I list it, in my log or not, depending on what you guys say, if the license is valid before or on 4-1-12
    hope this makes sense

It's valid the minute it hits your hands. I've never dated anything, just signed. Remember, ONLY SIGN THE COPIES. Never the original. Now you just need to get your COE.

Only list the guns that used your FFL/03.

Nope. Amazing how many times this has come up and people still get it wrong.

You do not use your license, you are licensed. If you received your FFL yesterday, you were licensed when the CMP rifle arrived and it should go in your bound book.

If you go to big 5 and buy a Mosin Nagant, where your 03 FFL does not matter, and must go through DROS and the 10 day wait, it still goes in your book.

Thing you already owned need not go in your book unless you sell them.

My mistake. I thought it was whatever transaction that involved using your 03 you had to record it. Years ago before my 03 I bought a Garand through a dealer and went through the DROS. I never recorded it. So, you are saying I should because its over 50? So, even though he bought the Garand through CMP, before he got his 03, he still has to make record of that?

You were not licensed when you got it, so no, not unless you sell it. If you do, the "Receipt" portion should say "Owned before licensed" or something to that effect.

The rifle came in to his possession while he was licensed (if I am reading his post right, the rifle came the day after his license came), so yeah, I would log it.

Mine came in today! And tomorrow morning, my Garand gets delivered to my door. Looks like my first entry in the bound book is the HRA M1 Garand.

Now, what's the fastest method to get my license to J&G? I wanna order a Mosin

Last I heard, JG only accepted Snail mail.

It really varies by vendor what they will accept. The last one I bought they accepted a signed scanned copy via email.

Agreed. It's valid when it hits your hands.

The license form was revised October 2011. It now has a place to sign and date; plus print your name; and print your position (which is "Collector.")
