    Mosin marking

Just wondering if anyone is familiar:

    Picked this up today.

I already tried 7.62x54r.net but I couldn't see anything even under the unknown that looked familiar.

The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Let's have a picture of the entire receiver.
    What is it Russian,91/30?
Is that a [YU] marked on it?
It's hard to see with the oil, rust, and flash mixed pic. -g

Look like normal firing proofs to me.

Perhaps you can be more specific. Is it a 91/30 or a 91/59 or an m38? Is it from Russia or______? But, I also believe it is a proof marking.

          Its a Russian 91/30.

Here's a top view of the receiver, super common year and arsenal.

And here is a better picture of the mark:

Kinda look like a "UU" stamped over by a "5" to me but I'm clueless to the meaning.

I've seen circle "Y' and circle "n" prrof markings, but not in the same circle.
I looking at the last picture sideways and it looks to me like a "5" in a circle. I know certain eastern block countries used it. Let me look. -g

Just a partial strike of one of the many varied Soviet inspector proofs.

                  Maybe try this:

"The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke speech of 23 April 1770, "Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents," delivered to the House of Commons.

                    Sounds good enough for me.

Yeah for what ever reason those busy Soviet inspectors sometimes went all nuts with their stamps on guns. So every Tomski, Dickski and Harryski put their stamps on everything just to justify their jobs.

Check out these closeup's on some Soviet weapons and their mega proof marks.
