    C&R Handguns

    Hello all,

Can someone please clarify for me what would deem a handgun eligible to be purchased with an 03 C&R license and shipped directly to a CA buyer?

I had thought no handguns (C&R or otherwise) may be purchased and shipped directly to a CA resident, but a while back I saw a thread where someone stated that certain handguns do not have to go to a 01 FFL dealer first and transferred.

    Any help would be appreciated...

For example... Does this one qualify? http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/R...25_Pistol.html

Handguns can't be shipped directly to an 03 FFL in CA no matter what. If you have an 03 and a COE from the CA DOJ, you can have the C&R pistol shipped to an 01 FFL, you pay the DROS and you don't have to wait the 10 days. That's about the best you can do. The 03 FFL really benefits you if you travel out of state to buy a C&R pistol. Cash and carry.

The only "handguns" i've seen any claims about being able to have shipped direct to a buyer were black powder muzzle loaders. I haven't been able to find (or decipher) the law that applies, but from what I've seen, they can be sold with NO form of ffl.

(if anyone knows this to be wrong, correction would be appreciated before I attempt an illegal purchase )

I personally purchased a Uberti Remington 1858 Army black powder without FFL and got it shipped directly to my house from Midway... I think you are safe.

I figured as much with 03 FFLs and C&R handguns. Just a while back I was debating with someone here regarding purchasing an older Makarov and requirements to do so. That was when the point was brought up that it did not have to go through an 01 FFL. Only way that could've been possible would be if that Makarov was black powder (very unlikely), or if it was a non-firing example, no?

one thing you CAN do is go out of the state (say to J&G Sales in Arizona) and buy it there. You can then bring the gun back (assuming it's not an assault weapon)

all you have to do upon return to CA is send a form + $19 to the DOJ....

BP and pre 1898 can be shipped to you. (Not just C&R holders, everyone)
ALL other handguns shipped in to CA must go to 01 FFL.

With your C&R, while out of state; you can buy a C&R handgun and bring it back and pay the man.
