    Venezuelan Mauser...Not

I won a Mauser that was listed as a Venezuelan Mauser last year.

Not sure what this is, but it doesn't appear to be a Venezuelan Mauser. No crest and 8 x 57 chambering. Rifle looks pristine under a thick coat of cosmo..bluing 100%, bore good, stock good.

    Any help with an identification?

Looks like a Mauser 98 made by Fabrique Nationale (FN) in Herstal Belgium, but I could be wrong as I am not n expert. If it is an FN mauser, you have yourself a damn fine rifle.

      M-24 Mauser?

Either way, sounds like you paid a good price for it.

I think the M24 was an "intermediate length" mauser, like the Yugo's. This one is the standard K98 length.

I know the M-24 is intermediate length. I just have not reached the level where I can tell which length is which by just looking at it.

I wish I could help you identify it, but I don't know enough.

Cant wait to see what it is though.

            FN Model 1924 ?

Looks some some variations of this model went to all corners of the world.

Check the chambering out before you fire it. Is it marked 8 x 57 ? Some were 30.06

Should have mentioned the length in the first post. Sorry

Here's a close up of a cartouche just behind the trigger

and a stamp on the bolt flat

I can't make hide nor hair of this one

Looks like a standard FN 98 short rifle. If it were Venezuelan, it would be a 7x57, not 8x57.

Looks like the national crest has been scrubbed (circular polish marks on receiver ring), so you may never know who it was issued to--many nations used 8x57 FN 98s--Greece, China, etc.

look up online by the serial number range with letter. I bet you will find something out that way.

This one isn't a 30'06. The receiver ring would have a notch cut in to accommodate the longer round. Here's a pic of a Columbian FN M1950 Mauser in 30'06.

jigenax is right...I tried to chamber a 30.06 round..no go, the bolt would not close. The bolt would close on an 8x57 however.

The rifle is not marked by caliber anywhere I can find.

My money is on a 8mm Greek one that has been scrubbed.

I think this is a FN 24/30, but you get the idea

I wondered about it possibly being Greek for two reasons...the liberal slathering of cosmoline and the serial number stamped on the buttstock.

I have several 1903 Springfields that were Greek returns that came back the same way.
