CMP Garand question

I'm on the verge of ordering a service grade Garand from the CMP. They appear to have both Springfield Armory and Harrington & Richardsons in this grade. Any advantage to getting one over the other?

I've heard the H&R's are in slightly better condition overall, and a bit rarer, than the SA's. I ordered a SA before the H&R's became available, and will probably put in an order for an H&R next year.

Peresonally I'd go for the H&R based on the rarity factor.

However, with a Springfield you could request a WWII serial number with your order (doesn't mean you'll get it, but can ask). Then you'd have one that may have 'been there'.

Quick paperwork questions:
1) is a photocopy of my passport good enough or do they need something more official?

2) is the only item to get notarized page 2A or do all the pages need to be done?

1. Its been good enough for me. They just need proof of citizenship/address.

2. Yes, just page 2A. And you only have to get it notarized once in 3 years. That way the CMP can get many, many orders out of you.

Good luck with your HRA SG. My order just went to open processing. That seems a lot faster than the 60+ days listed on the web site.

You're going to love your rifle when you get yours. Mine is a late 6 mil. It's a post-Korea that likely was built into a NM Rifle. If I was a bettin' man (and I'm not), I would bet that my rifle has only seen action on a competition firing line. Quite literally, all the parts of my rifle with the exception of the OP Rod are NM stamped parts. It's probably been through a rebuild, but not to the "Type II" NM rifle or someone cannibalized it's original OP Rod for use on another rifle.

I changed my in house CMP order from SA SG to HRA SG, and I received a beautiful Firestick. Correct barrel, bolt, stock on a 5,6XX, XXX.
