    M48 from Widner's

    Hello all,

I've got my m24/47 from ClassicArms still soaking in Mineral spirits and I'm already starting to think about getting another Mauser... Dangerous addiction this is, and I haven't even shot this one (my first C&R mauser).

Anyway, got my eye on some Finnish M39 "Sneak" rifles and also the M48 being sold by Widner's. I pretty much know what I can expect for the Mosin from the usual vendors, but what do you guys think about the M48s from Widner's? Truth in advertisement with regards to condition? What are your experiences in rifles from them? Anything you'd like to share would be great. I've already read many other reviews on other websites but would just like some opinions from people close to home.

Thanks. Tomorrow I will be cleaning this m24/47 all day... Trying to get the cosmoline smell out will be challenging, but it'll be fun. I swear I get more enjoyment out of cleaning these things than actually shooting them...

This is true. For all the complaint posts about cosmo it is rewarding to take that stinky slimy grease stick and return it back to it's former glory. Your post and the big 5 deal thread convinced me on jumping on classic's 24/47 deal. Can't go wrong with all those accessories included.

I got an m48 from them last month I would rate it ok not great. Stock is pretty beat up and the action is well. Used. I'm thinking maybe sot next time?

Yeah I have to register my FFL with SOG so I can check out their stock of rifles. Even though they're somewhat overpriced, gunsnammo.com is a good place for me to pick out M39s because pictures of each rifle is posted (although I would still send Pat an email asking specifics, because somehow all these unissued rifles with new post war stocks still have plugs, or surface pitting surprises). I wish for a Mauser equivalent of gunsnammo.com, but I think Empire is about as close as you can get.

ClassicArms did good for me though; my stock does have a small chunk missing but it is a curio after all. I got this for shooting and restoration fun so I am more than happy with what I got. I am thinking of getting an excellent grade one from Samco next if not a M48.

I also have a Manson muzzle crowning tool incoming, so if the rifle doesn't shoot very well, I'll play with the crown and see where that gets me.
