C&R Doomsday Preppers

So I've been watching that new show doomsday preppers, and got to thinking, 'I wonder what the calgunners would use from their collection'. Since a majority of C&R rifles are bolt action and can't nessecarily stand up to todays more modern weapons, the question that comes to my mind is, what would you use from your collection...personally I would stick to my K98. Fast bolt action, heavy accurate round, good for long distance (which is where you should be), and its German designed . Downsides, its heavy, long, and uses a bolt action system as opposed to a semi auto weapon, and its limited 5 round internal magazine.

I would use my ar15. If I only had a choice on C&R. it would be my Russian SKS. Semi auto/holds 10rds/chrome lined barrel easy to clean. Also I can use it to kill something, then cook that something on the end of the bayonet.

I thought about that to while waiting and I think mine would be my mosins for distance my 22 lr rifle for mid range and ar pistol close range and last resort my toma hawk lol I only got a few guns so dont have a big selection : ( YET : )

Enfield or 91/30 for long range. M1 Carbine for close range

Great input guys, you see I would think that using an 8mm would slice through any body armor with no problem.

Not all body armor. The level IV plates will stop M2 AP rounds.

As for what we would use, wouldn't we use whatever we had ammo for? How much fighting do you think there will be in a SHTF situation? Unless you are planning on handling oncoming hoardes of zombies, any "gunfight" is likely to only last a few rounds. So pretty much any full-powered rifle would work, assuming you can hit with it. The most likely shooting you will end up doing would be with a .22LR anyway. Small game and pest control. The odds of seeing a deer, or anything else that would need a rifle are slim at best. And while I would vastly prefer a semi-auto with a big magazine, tacti-cool attachments out the whazoo, and night vision equipment, and old .30-30 Winchester or 6.5 Carcano would work just as well most of the time. If it comes to a fight, it will likely be over after the first couple of shots anyway. Either they get you, or decide that there are easier pickings elsewhere. Not many people would like to try to lay a seige against somebody they know is armed.

Bolt action tube fed (no magazine) 22LR so I can carry a lot of ammo, hunt for food, and kill the first guy that tries anything stupid - course then I'm probably toast but at least there is one less for everyone else to worry about - right!

Currently k31 for long range work since I have lots of ammo for it and my Walther P1 as a side arm (got to love having 15 magazines for it) If I need to deal close range, m1

If I had to just pick one from my C&R collection it would be my Mosin M44. Same round used for the 91/30, not as heavy/bulky as the 91/30 and it's got a built in bayonet like the SKS, for the last ditch bonzai attack.
